Call (279) 225-1050 and tell us the brand, whether it is built-in, over-the-range, or a drawer unit, and what it is doing. Expert Repair Company repairs built-in wall microwaves, over-the-range (OTR) models, trim-kit installs, and drawer microwaves throughout the Sacramento area. Countertop microwaves are usually not worth a service call, for reasons explained below.
A microwave that runs, lights up, and spins the turntable but produces no heat has a high-voltage problem, most often the magnetron, the high-voltage diode, or the high-voltage capacitor. This is not a homeowner repair.
The microwave’s high-voltage capacitor can hold a lethal charge even after the unit is unplugged, and the magnetron and diode sit inside that same circuit. Never open the cabinet yourself. The technician discharges the capacitor safely before touching anything inside, then tests the magnetron, diode, and capacitor individually to find which one failed. A bad diode or capacitor is a moderate repair; a failed magnetron on an older unit is often the point where replacement makes more sense.
No heat, but the unit runs and the light and turntable work. Magnetron, high-voltage diode, or high-voltage capacitor. Technician diagnosis only, due to the high-voltage risk described above.
Door won’t stay shut, or the microwave won’t start with the door closed. A failed door switch or interlock. Microwaves use two or three interlock switches as a safety system, and a single bad switch can stop the unit from running at all or make it think the door is open when it is closed.
Turntable not turning. Usually the turntable motor or the drive coupler underneath the glass tray. An inexpensive fix and one of the most common calls we get.
Touchpad unresponsive or buttons stuck. The touchpad membrane or the control board behind it has failed. On OTR units, that board can also manage the vent fan and light, so a board failure can take out more than one function at once.
Sparking inside the cabinet. Stop using the microwave immediately. Sparking usually means a broken waveguide cover, metal touching the cabinet wall, or a failing magnetron. This is one of the few appliance symptoms where we ask customers to unplug the unit and wait for the visit rather than keep using it.
Fan or vent not working on an over-the-range microwave. OTR units double as the range hood, so a dead vent motor leaves you without ventilation over the cooktop as well. We test the fan motor, the fan switch, and the control board.
Interior light out. Sometimes just the bulb or LED module, sometimes the light switch or control board. A quick fix once we are on site.
The diagnostic fee is $99, and it is waived when you approve the repair. If you also want us to check a second appliance while we’re there, that’s $25 more, no separate trip charge.
We give you a firm price for the microwave repair before any part goes in. If you decline the repair, you owe only the $99 diagnostic.
Countertop microwaves are inexpensive to replace and rarely worth a service call. A magnetron, control board, or diode repair on a $100 countertop unit typically costs more than a new one, and parts availability is poor on discontinued models. Built-in, over-the-range, drawer, and trim-kit microwaves are a different story: they are installed into cabinetry, cost significantly more to replace, and are usually worth repairing.
We repair built-in and over-the-range microwaves from GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Bosch, Thermador, Sub-Zero, Wolf, Samsung, LG, and JennAir. Sub-Zero and Wolf built-ins, along with Thermador and Bosch panel-ready installs, are common in newer Roseville and Folsom kitchens. Samsung and LG over-the-range units are frequent calls across Citrus Heights and Carmichael. Trim-kit microwaves (a countertop-style unit finished into cabinetry with a decorative frame) and drawer microwaves both count as built-in installations for us and are worth repairing given the installation cost involved.
Repair a built-in or OTR microwave under 8 to 10 years old for an interlock switch, turntable motor, touchpad, or light. A magnetron or control board failure on a unit past that age, especially a discontinued model where parts are hard to source, is often a point to consider replacement, particularly for a basic OTR unit. On higher-end built-ins from Sub-Zero, Wolf, or Thermador, the installation cost alone usually justifies repairing even a major component failure.

Expert Repair Company is based in Citrus Heights, CA and covers Roseville, Folsom, Orangevale, Fair Oaks, and Carmichael on regular routes, with Rancho Cordova, Antelope, North Highlands, Rocklin, and Sacramento also served. Newer homes in Roseville and Folsom tend to have built-in wall microwaves paired with wall ovens, while older 1970s housing stock in Citrus Heights, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, and Orangevale more often has over-the-range units original to the last remodel.

If your over-the-range microwave’s vent problem is tied to cooktop ventilation, see our oven, range, cooktop & stove repair service. If you’re also having ice or water issues on a nearby refrigerator, check our ice maker repair page.

No. The high-voltage capacitor inside can hold a dangerous charge even when the microwave is unplugged. Leave the cabinet closed and call a technician trained to discharge it safely.
This almost always points to the magnetron, the high-voltage diode, or the high-voltage capacitor. These are technician-only repairs due to the high-voltage circuit involved.
Rarely. Countertop microwaves are usually cheaper to replace than repair, and we will tell you that on the phone. We focus on built-in, over-the-range, trim-kit, and drawer microwaves, which are worth repairing.
Stop using it immediately and unplug it if you can do so safely. Sparking usually means a damaged waveguide cover or a failing magnetron, and continued use risks further damage. Call us to schedule a visit.
Yes. We regularly service Sub-Zero and Wolf built-in and drawer microwaves in Roseville and Folsom kitchens, including panel-ready and trim-kit installations.
The diagnostic visit is $99, waived when you approve the repair. The final repair price depends on the part needed and is quoted firmly before any work begins.
Often yes. OTR units share a control board between the microwave function and the vent fan, so a board failure can affect both. We test the fan motor, switch, and board separately to isolate the cause. Expert Repair Company is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Every visit starts with an $99 diagnostic that is waived when you approve the repair.
